Physiotherapy

Is a holistic approach to reducing pain and functional loss. Its aim is to facilitate healing through the use of manual hands-on therapy, exercise prescription and movement correction to promote tissue recovery and optimise recover, returning you to your desired activity work or sport.

The starting point of our assessment is a thorough discussion about how your problem has come about and how it is effecting you and your life. We use this information to guide our treatment and the  physical examination of your joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments to give you a fully reasoned diagnosis.

We will fully explain the diagnosis and how it has come about and give you reassurance and confidence that recovery is not too far away. We will then formulate a treatment plan with you, incorporating your expectations, lifestyle and a programme of home based exercises if required. Our aim is to facilitate your return to function, whatever that may be for you.

We understand that everyone's needs are different, whether you just want an explanation and some education regarding your pain or whether you want us to guide you through each step back to function we can help you.

Our ultimate goal is to get you back to where you want to be – fully functional and pain free.

Acupuncture (dry needling)

Dry needling is an acupuncture technique specifically used to treat muscle dysfunction. Muscle dysfunction can be defined by muscle pain, spasm or stiffness that manifests itself as pain and therefore functional limitation.

If the muscles around the head and neck have become tight or stiff, this can refer pain into the head, feeling very much like a headache.

The technique utilises an acupuncture needle to instigate a local chemical and neurological stimulus in the muscle belly, very much like deep tissue massage, but is specific and very targeted, rather than superficial.

The major difference between traditional acupuncture and specific dry needling is that you feel the response within the dysfunctional muscle, this can feel like the muscle twitches, and there is a sensation of deep ache. The after effect can last up to 24-48hrs, you are encouraged to use heat to encourage blood flow to the area and to nourish the muscles that have not had a sufficient blood flow.
